I had a tire drop 3 PSI quite quickly (TPMS with PSI display is a good invention) and I was able to find a large staple looking piece of metal sticking out of my tire. I put some soapy water on it and sure enough, there were bubbles. I wanted it get my tire fixed before I had to dig out the "space saver" spare. This shop was one of the few tire shops in Calgary that was open until nine PM. Kudos to shop management for giving people who work 9-5 the option to attend to tire issues without booking off work.
When I called, they were a bit vague about wanting to promise that they could repair my tire before they closed. And I know the caveats here - like is the puncture far enough away from the sidewall, does the tire still have enough tread, etc.,. I guess I was hoping to hear "Yeah, we know you did not drive over that staple on purpose, if this is a standard repair we can get it done".
So I arrived, they took my details, and they did get the repair done in about 40 minutes. I deducted a few stars from their rating for the following reasons:
1. My wheel had a grey colored valve stem cap when I presented the vehicle - it had a green cap when it was returned. Green caps usually mean nitrogen filled tires, I am fairly sure they did not nitrogen fill my tire.
2. There was no mention of the tire repair charge they were going to charge me prior to working on my car.
3. The tire they fixed had 37 PSI when they returned it which is higher than what appears on the door jam label.
4. The other three tires on this vehicle were about 2 pounds under-inflated. Industry standard should be to top up all of the tires. World class service would have been to top up the spare tire too.
5. No warning given that a tire repair would degrade the tire's speed rating.
