| - It's a real shame that the most accessible multi-plex theater for city residents is also one of the worst and most overpriced in the area.
I see A LOT of movies in theaters, and I do so because I want to enjoy excellent picture and sound quality, in comfort, with a quiet and respectful crowd. A girl can dream, right?! Loews offers none of the above. Picture quality seems to have drastically decreased over the past few years, with "ghost" images, shiny/translucent patches on screens, and general blurriness at every showing. Even worse is a weird buzzing sound audible in the background of 2 movies I've seen recently. The seats have become worn and uncomfortable, and in the smaller theaters there can be very limited seating options, as much room is taken up for "VIP" seats. I've also had to deal with noisy crowds here way more often than at any other theater.
Also annoying is that the food counter doesn't seem to be very operational. Now, I almost never eat at theaters, but the recently advertised $3 pizza special caught my eye. The first time I tried to order it the cashier said they were out. Next time, after waiting for almost 10 minutes for someone to even begin my order (making me late for my show) I was told the oven was broke, and given a refund. The lady was nice about it, but be warned if you are going and planning on getting anything other than popcorn.
Finally, the prices are INSANE. A weekday matinee is $10. Just let that sink in. $5 tickets before noon, but those are only on weekends.
I'm only giving 2 stars because they offer a great selection of movies not shown anywhere else. And they are conveniently located. But honestly, it's worth the long bus ride out to Monroeville mall to see movies at the excellent theater there.
