Steve may be an good mechanic but he leaves a lot to be concerned about in his communication. Twice I've been to him and he has had done work, including oil changes, that have not been authorized. It seems that he just does oil changes when you bring your car in for anything.
My wife took her car to him for some work and again, he changed the oil without authorization to do that. He just mumbles something like, "it was close to being due anyway".
The fact is a good mechanic should not do work without discussing the work and the cost with the vehicle owner. I've had two instances of this with Steve and it has broken any trust I have.
I'm not going back as the last time I left the car with him while I was going on vacation. I wanted him to replace the steering hoses, he did not do the work I asked for but did something different, (which he never called to discuss) and charged several hundred $$, and did an oil I did not need. The truth is I have no idea if he did the work he claimed as he did not show me what he did on the car itself.
