They've come a long way since my greasy introduction to O Face Doughnuts six months ago. I kept coming back because it's a convenient stop on my way to work and serves some of the best coffee in town. I also like the renovated building with its charming courtyard. It reminds me of my grandparents' condominium in Florida. I'm very happy that O Face got their deep fryer issues under control and the flavor of the fried dough now matches the quality of the caffeinated beverages. I usually order a cortado, but lately I've been hooked on the cold brew.
The doughnut flavor combinations are very innovative and tasty. The new menu boards make it easy to select your favorite variety. For classics, I enjoy the old fashioned chocolate cake with its crisp exterior. When the friendly lady who usually takes my order and prepares my coffee informed me that it was also available glazed with Earl Grey ganache, I had to try that variation. The chocolate yeasted doughnut with Nutter Butter filling comes topped with potato chips and was a good choice when I was craving something salty. However, the best doughnut that I've ever had is their passion fruit blueberry. The classic yeast dough is filled with a Jasmine tea-infused passion fruit curd and glazed with a blueberry compote topping. This beauty is on the "knife and fork" side of the menu, and if you bite in to it, you'll soon know why. I'll be trying the pear and gorgonzola fritter next!
