| - The Kimpton is a gorgeous new hotel in downtown Phoenix, with wonderful spacious rooms and amenities. We loved the large comfy bed; the toiletries in the bathroom; the nice bathrobes; and that we could dim the lights in the bathroom. The awesome Blue Hound Kitchen is right downstairs, and there's everything to eat, drink, see and do within walking distance.
The cons: We were tired and grumpy after arriving in Phoenix from a delayed flight out of LA, waiting for 20+ minutes to get on the rental car bus, and getting a rental car after many up sell attempts. We followed GPS (which would have led us down a wrong way street) and with the one way streets and road closures due to construction, we could not find or get to the hotel. After driving around for 15-20 minutes, I called the hotel and got some very vague driving instructions. I called back, specifically asking for landmarks: are you near this? What's across the street? We finally found it, but this did nothing to improve our mood.
The next morning, as we were dressing to attend a family funeral in Northern Arizona, there was a fire alarm and we were evacuated from the building. We had to walk down from the 6th Floor and assemble on the street in front of the hotel. After about 10 minutes, we were told it was a false alarm, and we could go back to our rooms. This exercise made us 10 minutes late for the funeral, which my family delayed, waiting for us.
