| - I tried giving this place a chance. I moved out to Vegas looking for a gym nearby to continue the workouts I did at my old gym. Big cat isn't an ideal gym or an ideal trainer by any means.
First off, I'll say the punching bags are fine, but that's about it. Speed bags are flimsy and unscrew easily when being hit and there are only two of them in a tight corner of the gym. The timer isn't consistently on or working so you have to keep track of your workout rounds independently which is a little strange from most boxing gyms I've been to or seen since you train as a group to the timer. What frustrated me the most though is when I asked big cat for any real boxing advice or when he would fix the equipment, he is extremely confrontational and is always defensive never giving you a straight answer. He just goes on and on about his way of doing things, which isn't that accurate to begin with.
Because I trained on my own instead of taking his classes, I did get to see the classes happen. I guess his cardio training is alright, but his boxing training is absolutely horrible. He does not teach his clients proper boxing form and repeats the same punches the whole time. You're not learning how to actually box, and if you listen to big cat, you're going to really hurt yourself with improper form. The worst part is, he's not even motivational. He picks on people boxing wrong and doesn't even motivate them. Just publicly embarrasses them in front of the class. It's like being trained by a bully who doesn't know what he's doing.
Lastly, I think I could get over most of this since I was doing my own boxing workout, but the gym membership is a complete RIPOFF. $80 a month for a poser trainer and subpar equipment. Wish I could give this gym less than 1 star.
