| - Complimentary tickets to Hilarities for Pickwick & Frolic's 8 year anniversary show? Why, yes! I'd love to celebrate a Cleveland business lasting almost a decade! (That's like 50 in CLE years, by the way...)
Wow. On this particular occasion, I think this comedy show was more of a "Cleveland Roast", but man was it funny. I love this city deeply but I think part of that affection is being able to laugh at good ol' CLE too. Or I'm just a jerk. Whatever.
Hilarities is my favorite venue to catch a gut-busting comedy show in the city. First off, the location is money. Right smack in the middle of E.4th Street and inside of the fabulous Pickwick & Frolic - that's a win/win if I've ever seen one. The ambiance is killer too. Upscale, but not pretentious. It's even a little old-school with a speakeasy-esque cherry on top. Especially as you walk through Pickwick, visit the antique box office and head down the big, carpeted staircase with gold accents.
The theater itself trumps the Improv's space, in my opinion. The seating is super comfortable for lounging and laughing. The spacious theater is dark and has an industrial feel with newly renovated touches. Very Cleveland. The beautiful purple chandelier always catches my gaze at least 10x per show, but that's mostly because my attention span is like .005 seconds long.
Service has always been great for me, although Hilarities gets a star knocked off for their 2 drink per person minimum order. Honestly, I'm always up for more than one cocktail, but a rule? That sort of thing pisses me off. If I'm ordering another drink it better be MY choice, not your's! I think the only thing that irks me more than minimum drink orders is minimum credit card limits! Not only is that illegal, it's obnoxious...but I digress...again.
Hilarities: Great shows, local business, awesome vibe and location. I could keep listing what makes it great, or you could just go there already! Gaaaawd!
