  • Bottom line: Use another taxi company. My story: I've been living downtown for the last 6 years using cabs often and smartly (never in rush hour and always avoiding streets with constructions and events). During these years I've been using Beck mostly, because all their cabs are equipped with debit/visa machines and because it's mostly Beck downtown. Until today I had my fair share of horror stories with Beck drivers, e.g. Drivers conveniently trying to forget the meter to rip me & my friends off while we're in a hurry, driving 90km per hour and driving dangerous while on a free highway on the way to the airport, intentionally turning into busy streets and traffic avoiding my instructed directions, etc. Today it was the straw that broke the camel's back. This time the driver knowingly lied to me that "the debit machine does not work" and tried to go on a detour so that I would withdraw cash from my bank, schemer had the decency to get in touch with his "manager" over the dispatch machine who confirmed that the machine does not work. Mind you I warned him right when I got into the cab that I'm paying with debit, he started driving and then threw this theatrical play while on our way. I was firm and continued to insist that I'm paying with debit and that's it. He made a sour face and when we arrived OH MIRACLE a working debit machine magically appeared and worked. The ridiculous part is that the ride was only $8.50 and that he attempted a scheme and a tantrum all in vain. Now this may sounds like a fun story, but I was not having any fun. I was on my way to the vet, my cat was in a bad condition and I had no time to be amused by this scheme. From today forward I will avoid this company at all cost. Dear Beck Taxi: Screen your staff. Hire driving professionals who know their way around the city. Audit existing drivers. Put in place a reporting system where drivers have their full name displayed in large print (people in a hurry and stress situations don't have time memorizing a 40 character name in small print) and have a direct number or email to customer support department.
