  • We had a wonderful experience at Malabar. We decided to visit Malabar before heading next door to the Blumenthal. It's literally a 2-minute walk to the Blumenthal entrance. We arrived at 6:15 pm for a 6:15 pm reservation. There were two other 6:15 reservations ahead of us, and we ended up waiting about 20 minutes to be seated. No worries, it was a Saturday night, and the place was really busy. The place is small and intimate. It is well decorated, cozy. The tables are kind of close to one another, but I think it adds to the experience making it a nice, social atmosphere. Great for tapas-style eating. Upon being seated, we were greeted quickly and placed drink orders. The wine was served quickly and we placed our initial food order a few minutes later. We started with the croquetas, stuffed peppers, and artichokes with lemon. They were all wonderful, but the croquetas were out of this world. They came out warm, crisp and stuffed with ham and cheese. We wound up ordering two more later in the meal. The stuffed peppers were really nice. I could take or leave the artichokes, but they were nicely prepared. I'm not a huge artichoke lover, but wanted to try them so we weren't just ordering meats. The second round of ordering, we had steak empanadas, vegetable and chicken kabobs, more croquetas, and a potato omelet. The empanadas were excellent. The crust was flaky and the carnitas inside were perfectly seasoned and tender. The potato omelet was also great; light and fluffy eggs with tender potatos. It was very filling. The veggie and chicken kabobs were nice, with the grilled chicken having the best flavor. We were ready for the check when we were surprised with the coconut gelato given to us on the house. It was so delicious! The coconut flavor was the perfect ending to our meal at Malabars.
