  • The ice cream at Golden Cow is just fine. It's rare that I'm bummed out by ice cream, but I wasn't really satisfied after my cone. The location is rather odd. It's on the side of an apartment building. We went around 7:30pm on a Saturday and parking was slim but manageable. If you don't see the umbrellas on their small patio, you'll miss it. The shop itself is beautiful and almost confusingly nice. It looks like it belongs in the Hamptons, honestly. In retrospect, I kind of take that as a sign that this isn't my joint. I'm all for things being unnecessarily fancy, but this was definitely a surprise. I sampled Salted Oreo and Dunkaroos. They were both decent, but I didn't know that I wanted a full scoop of either. I tend to get tired of salted ice creams quickly, and I honestly had forgotten what dunkaroos were and the birthday-cake-style sweetness surprised me. I ended up with mint chocolate chip and chocolate. I NEVER get plain chocolate, but this seemed like the spot to get it. I was right about that; it was a lovely, rice chocolate. The mint chocolate chip, however, pretty much tasted like toothpaste. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't great. My friend got vanilla and that was pretty good. Overall, sorry Golden Cow, I think 2 Scoops wins this one. They have more flavors, and more chunky flavors, which is really what I want. I do recommend Golden Cow if you're a die-hard plain chocolate or vanilla fan, though.
