As for bakeries in Kensington, this place was really the only place until Cobbs moved in as well. Cobbs has different stuff for much higher prices. So My Market Bakery will continue to get my patronage for as long as I continue to shop in Kensington.
The egg bread is absolutely fantastic. I think they put something special in it because when it's fresh the loaf never has a chance to cool before it gets crammed into my pie-hole.
The apple-walnut bread is an absolute favourite in my house too. Whenever I leave my doggie alone for too long, he'll grab it and eat the whole thing.
They do have some decent croissants for only $1 each. They are most of the time flaky without too much heaviness. However later in the day I'm often disappointed by the lack of croissants. (They often sell out of them)
They offer some pastries too including cookies, cakes, biscotti, tarts and bars. Avoid the "day old" if you see they have brownies. The other day-olds however can be good depending on what they are. (cheap buttertart ftw!)
My only real complaint aside from the clearly obvious overload of carb-o-rific breadstuffs is that they often have a limited selection of darker and whole grain loaves. Probably because they often sell out before I get there.
