I was a member of The Tan Factory for about 9 months. Nice people and good facility. I had a job that was to last a month in July of 2013. I put my membership on hold. I found out that my work was to be extended and called Emily the manager about this. She said, "i would have to come in and do the extension." i told her I was working in Santa Monica and it would not be possible to comeback. She told me, "she would take care of it."
October 21st I came into the tan factory and they told me I had a balance of $323.00. I asked how this was possible and they said their was a freeze fee of $5.00 per month and because my card rejected the fee the charged the full $89.00 per month fee and a $15.00 rejection fee.
I told them I would pay the $5.00 per month freeze fee but not any of the other charges. They said no! They said if I paid they would give me three months.
They spent nine month building good will and threw it away for $323.00. It was obvious to the girl at the counter but her boss said no!
In the nine months I was there, I paid $800 in Dues and about $400 in lotion. I'm now gone! Short sighted. Pay more attention to the lifetime value of the customer and less to silly policies.
Do Not Give Them Your CC number!
I have gone to Chase Bank who told me the practice may not be legal; in addition, the AG's office said they are beginning to crack down on many of these business.
