  • I've been coming to Dotty's since it was a hole in the wall where you could get a giant burger and fries for under $5. It was ranked one of the top burgers 10 burgers in the country. I have traveled extensively, Dotty's is my #1. To the gentleman who said he had better burgers in DC, please tell me where? I didnt find anything half this good when I lived there. If you havent eaten here before, make your first burger the Melting Pot. I get mine with lettuce, tomato, fried onions, and extra garlic sauce. After that you may want to try some of the many other options, but make this one your first. If you like cheese curds, or even if you dont, get the cheese curds, with garlic sauce for dipping. Best cheese curds I've found outside of a state fair. Fried Mac & Cheese Wedges are another favorite. You can get a basket of fries to share with 2-4 people, and you can make them chilli cheese fries which are awesome. The malteds are great. I've heard the pie and drinks on tap are great, although I havent tried either. The prices have steadily gone up in the decades I've been a patron, and it's harder and harder to find parking, or get quick takeout. These days I only go when I plan to sit down. The atmosphere is excellent and they almost always have really good music playing, often of very random genres. If you're like me and are on a mission to know where all the good burgers are, here are my other local stops: Player's Bar & Grill on Winnebago. Not quite as much flavor as Dotty's, but damn it's an impressive hunk of meat. Weary Traveler on Williamson. Everything here is excellent and many swear by the burger. Grumpy Troll in Mt Horeb, personally this isnt one of my favorites but their burgers are renowned and I will eat one if I'm there. And Five Guys. Chain nonwithstanding, if you dont love Five Guys, I dont trust you on burgers. Oh I forgot to mention-- Village Bar on Mineral Point was picked by the Food Network as one of the top burgers in country. I tried one and couldnt have been more disappointed. It was tiny and flavorless, like a cafeteria burger. I did enjoy their smoked sausage sandwich and it's a great little spot.
