  • CONCEPT (from the introduction): "All drinks in the menu are listed to show the progression of cocktails from around the world. Menu is separated into two styles: Classic and Vesper Interpretation." The Classic is Vesper's interpretation of the original recipe while the Vesper Interpretation is a "modern makeover to show off the evolution of the industry and also to cater to a more discerning and adventurous palate". VENUE: This is the Cosmopolitan's lobby bar. As such this is located between the hotel main entrance and the casino floor. This is the closest bar adjacent to the entrance to the hotel rooms. SERVICE: The No1DP and I actually went here twice for pre and post dinner drinking. Jeff and Dan really took care of us during our visit and know how to make their drinks! Dan even maintained his composure as he serviced and made drinks for a rude customer. Please ask for them if you ever visit. Between the two visits I had a total of 3 drinks. THEME - Mai Tai (both $16) CLASSIC: "The Original 1944 Trader Vic's Mai Tai recipe. A fountainhead in tiki cocktail that is beautiful in it's simplicity". It's made with Appleton Estate Reserve Bols Orange Curacao, Fresh Lime Juice & Giffard Orgeat. Considering I had a Trader Vic's Mai Tai two days earlier I was quite impressed with Vesper's creation, assuming they did stick to the recipe. A good Mai Tai is supposed to taste sweet but can get you quite toasted fast if you're not prepared. Note: As they were out with Appleton Estate Dan used Sailor Jerry's Rum. This still tasted better than Trader Vic's. MODERN ("Aloha Means Goodbye"): Thai influenced Mai Tai with Kai Coconut Pandan Vodka, Velvet Folernum, Fresh Lime Juice, Pistachio Orgeat Coco Cream, Birdseye Chili, Ginger Beer. I was instantly reminded of the Chandelier's Bruce Tea with the vodka and birdseye chili as common ingredients. Upon taste I thought this is essentially Bruce Tea, substitute peanut butter and matcha tea with ginger beer and lime juice. Considering that a well-made Bruce Tea is my most favorite cocktail EVER I was very happy with this interpretation. Additionally I had their mule with smoked and spicy vodka. I really like how the smoked taste accentuated the tartness of ginger beer. Their ginger candy topping was also delicious. They don't have the copper tin mugs but customers tend to steal those mugs and they're not cheap to replace. No1DP found his most favorite drink ever at this bar - a Mezcal Old Fashioned. He appreciated the drink's smoothness. He also enjoyed both interpretations of his mule. After an exceptional visit consisting of great craft cocktails I am happy that I have found a new favorite bar and the No1DP and I look forward to visiting this bar again when we are back in Vegas. If you don't care for craft cocktails they do serve your standard cocktails and well drinks, but according to Dan, a vodka red bull (standard vodka, no top shelf) costs $17-$18. The specialty cocktails are less than this, but they do serve you the whole can of red bull.
