  • I am a professional dancer, and am always interested in going into vintage stores for the costumes and pieces for my burlesque act. My boyfriend is owns a vintage watch business and loves antiques of all kinds! Sometimes we get lucky in vintage stores, especially since we love to fill out home with these pieces. We came to Gypsy Bazaar on his day off to look for costume pieces for me, watches for him, books for our home, and other pieces that might catch our eye. I was delighted when we walked in, I saw so many things I knew we would buy! My boyfriend picked up a COFFEE TABLE book about paintings, one he thought I would like for our house, and picked it up. By the way everything in the store is laid out, the book along with it. There wasn't a "no touching" sign, the book didn't even look very fragile. The owner, I presume, who I heard another customer call Coco immediately interjected and asked "are you going to buy that? If you're not don't touch it" I ask, how can my boyfriend and I, who are in our 20's decide if we want to buy a book without seeing its contents? She went on. "It's because there are many pictures in that book. You can touch anything else except for this particular book". Yes folks, she said this. That he could touch anything else in the store EXCEPT for the one thing he was looking at. My only guess is that she didn't want my boyfriend touching this book. Maybe it's because we are in our early 20's and look quite young. She went on to say "it's because.... There might be kids around and they will want to touch it too". There were no kids in sight guys. None. This was her attempt to excuse her discriminatory behavior. My boyfriend looked at me and we telepathically decided to leave immediately. Honestly, I have never felt so uncomfortable in a place of business as I was in this one. Discrimination is absolutely unacceptable, and just because we are young does not mean that we do not deserve what I see everyone else who has left a review has experienced. So so so incredibly disappointing, frankly disgusting. If you're under the age of 30 probably don't come here.
