The woman at the rental counter used scare tactics to try to get us to purchase extra insurance. When we said "no," she continued to warn us that in Nevada, even a tiny scratch on the car could cost us $5,000 in liability, even if it wasn't our fault. (In Nevada, she explained, the rental companies can sue for loss of use while the car is in the shop. Our normal car insurance would not cover this.) She continued to badger us into buying the insurance, and was a bit nasty when we continued to refuse. The extra insurance would have cost us more per day than we were paying for the rental. I feel as if this was bait and switch; Budget's advertised price should have included a warning about this extra insurance. Because of this pushy woman, I was unable to relax when driving the car. It placed a niggle of doubt in our minds from the very first day of our trip. Instead of heading out to the National Parks in Utah with a spirit of fun and adventure, we were terrified someone was going to hit the car. This put a damper on our entire trip from day one.
