| - So I will acknowledge that I'm in the minority here. It's been around since 1958 so what do I know? That said, we won't be going back. First, the positives: easy parking, seated immediately (although the reservation was for 5pm and the place was mostly empty) and greeted pleasantly by the bus boy and waiter. Our steaks (mine a filet, the wife's a Delmonico) were excellent and the baked potato perfectly baked.
Then the negatives:
* both my wife and I noticed a distinctive unpleasant taste to the water poured from a pitcher by the bus boy - sort of like it came out of a hose. We asked for a replacement which was much better but that was an off-putting way to start the evening.
* our waiter never made it clear that my onion soup appetizer could have taken the place of the included salad for a small up charge.
* then there's the supposed "classic salad." Really? Iceberg lettuce accompanied by a plate of large cut vegetables (onions, green pepper, radish, cucumber, and cherry tomatoes) that you have to assemble yourself. Tremendously wasteful in my opinion since neither of us are fans of green pepper and I hate cucumbers. Where's grated cheese, croutons, carrots, etc? The dressings were OK but nothing spectacular. It's only a "classic salad" cause they call it one.
* No bread was offered - only crackers already at the table. I've since read reviews raving about their bread but we wouldn't know since we never got any.
* a different server delivered our main courses after which no one, including our original waiter, checked back to see if the meals were to our liking. Heck, that's a basic "waiter 101" which happens at virtually every other place I've eaten at. Very disappointing not to have it happen at a high dollar restaurant.
