| - Is it ok that my favorite part about the Hoover Dam is that I can stretch my legs and be in two states at once? More importantly in two different time zones?! Imagine me all of 25 years-old jumping the state line..."Now it's 2pm, now it's 3pm, now it's 2pm...I'm here from the future, to save you all."
Aside from the state line that runs smack dab in the middle of the Dam I often hear it called an "engineering marvel". Apparently when they were planning it, they said it would be impossible to build - obviously they proved them wrong.
Standing at 725+ feet...this isn't for those that are scared of heights. Even being terrified of heights, I peeked my head over and looked down - immediately getting dizzy. I'd shake it off, then peeked over again. It was fascinating HOW MASSIVE this wall of concrete is. Depending on the time of the year the water levels will be different. On one side is the river and that side is a little higher water level (duh!) compared to the output, but you can see the various water lines on the surrounding areas.
There's a cool tour you can take, which takes you through the inside of the Dam and gives you a nice overview of the history of it. I've done it in the past...and it's alright...but if you are on a time crunch, just park, take some photos, look down the face of it and jump from state to state for a few minutes (or don't, whatever, don't judge me). Your time could be better spent at the Grand Canyon. This way you save a few bucks and time. We drove up from Vegas on our way to the Grand Canyon and the pitstop was a good leg stretcher and really impressive to see.
If you have the time though, do the tour! This is really is a marvel of the world and it's so impressive to see it - plus it's relatively free (parking is paid) to snap some awesome photos and walk along the top of it.
Aside from being one of the largest producers of hydroelectric power...it's also pretty much a time machine.
