  • Worst car rental experience ever. We rented our car through the Costco travel website where it gave us a very good deal at $98.00 CAD for a 3 night weekend rental (full size vehicle). The day before we were to pick it up, Avis sent us a modification email saying how our rate was changed from $98.00 to $107.00 CAD. When we were picking up our car, they charged us like $127.00 CAD for no apparent reason, EVEN WHEN we our original deal was at $98.00. Their reasoning? "The $98.00 is not Canadian currency, it is USD." No, $98.00CAD does not mean $98.00USD. I have no idea where these people got USD from because we had used costcotravel.CA to book our rental car. My husband was angry at this point so he showed them our original deal and people "tried" and gave us $107.00 in the end. They STILL couldn't explain WHY they couldn't give us the Costco pricing when we were (1) costco members and (2) booked through the costco travel website. At this point, we were fed up of trying to fight over a $9.00 difference so we signed our papers and were about to get our car (white sonata). As my husband was signing our papers, another women snatched the papers out of my husband's hands and THREW him new ones to sign WITHOUT ANY explanation of what they were and why his original ones were taken away. The other women gave us another car (silver sonata) for NO APPARENT REASON and was really rude (threw us the papers and didn't give any explanation). The original woman that was helping us was trying to be nicer because of what the other women did, but well, we were already offended. My husband was about to say something and complain to the manager, but we saved our time and didn't. Our "new" car (silver sonata) was FULL of scratches (over 10 scratches on the car) and what was really funny was that Avis was trying to trick us by saying that it's a completely NEW car. Thankfully they didn't rip us off here because my husband noticed every scratch and wrote it down on our car inspection sheet. After our 3 nights, we were about 3-5 litres short from being full, but they charged us more than 10 litres worth (~$30.00) when my husband didn't notice. On top of this, when we looked at our receipt, not only did we receive a higher base rate (compared to costco travel), and we also received less Costco discount (compared to other times we've rented such as at Budget). This has been the worst experience we've had ever, and we'll not be returning to this Avis location ever again for their crappy service. The only reason they do so well is because of its prime location. If we had know that it had such bad reviews online, we wouldn't have gone in the first place.
