  • AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS!!! Unless you're a crack head who needs cash for drugs, this is not the place for you. I went twice and both times I was deferred because their staff are incompetent. The first time I went, the two ladies up front said they couldn't find good veins, even though I've donated blood, with absolutely no problems, many times before. They suggested I come back the next day and try again. I returned the following day and the ladies up front still swore I didn't have a good vein to donate from so I suggested they have someone else look. They had one of the techs, who do the actual needle stick for the donation, check my arms and she had no problem whatsoever finding a vein that she said was "perfect." However, I got screened out again because they said my blood pressure was too high. Now, I know my blood pressure runs high normally, but it's never prevented me from donating blood in the past. They had me sit in the lobby to see if it would go down. After the 2nd attempt, they said my BP was still to high. I suggested that they let me sit down to do my BP because anyone with medical training knows that to get an accurate BP reading, the patient should be seated quietly for several minutes so they are relaxed before you take their BP. People with medical training also know that taking someone's BP while they are standing will result in a higher than normal reading. However, I was told I couldn't sit to have my BP taken because that's "against the rules." She said I could wait in the lobby and try again in 15 minutes, but by that time, I'd already wasted almost 2 hours of my time that day and an hour the day before and I wasn't prepared to give them any more of my time. LESSON #1: places like Biomat cater to crack heads who are desperate for cash and who have blown out veins that are easy to find because they get used for iv drugs so often. LESSON #2: the staff at Biomat are totally incompetent and they turn away good donors because they don't have the training necessary to do what is a fairly simple job.
