  • What does it take to get on some sort of patient panel at Southwest because there are s lot of little things that can be improved: 1. How come every check-in has a line with no way to accommodate someone impaired? Why can't you have a take a number then take a seat system instead of a line that's not so easy to stand in if you have an injury or impairment 2. Why don't they tell patients not to wear perfume and stop using industrial fragrances in their bathrooms? Fragrances commonly use "stock" ingredients in addition to specialized ingredients. Many of them are actually toxic. 3. Medical records... not related to this visit but I spend hours trying to track things down for two reasons. The first is SWM stupid file naming systems that make records hard to find so I often get told the records aren't there. The second is a really inadequate way of sharing records with overflow providers... and don't tell me it's HIPPA... it's technology and processes. 4. Lack of communication between providers. Seriously.. one hand has no idea what the other is doing. I had a visit in January where the provider didn't yell at me but he wasn't happy about something I did and when I told him he should get together with the other person and let Me know what they decide he assumed I was going to a "quack" alternative medicine provider... until i told him it was also southwest person and THEN he got on the computer and looked it up 5. Don't treat people in pain management like drug seekers. I'm kind of lucky to be walking but it isn't fun. Check the RX quantity and frequency. I want to see the same look on your face as I saw in the pain management specialist when I waved off a refill because I don't like the stuff! Minuscule dosage and only when I need it and not exactly the stuff street users would bother with! 6. Don't assume that when someone is asking for pain relief they want narcotics. I'm waiting for a prior authorization to be renewed for steroid injections but in the mean time my hands are fairly useless (so no work) and I was thinking of some kind of anti-inflammatory beyond the huge dose of tylenol that isn't working or the voltaren gel that worked a bit but then stopped. I get to message a very painful area and the apply ice... so basically what I have been doing for weeks. (All that Med school and I got a solution I found on the internet...see why people turn to the internet?) 7. Last but not least, thanks to my non-gripping hands I suffered a severe scald when I lifted a pot of boiling pasta in the kitchen and dropped it on myself. I used the video appointment feature but what a struggle! I did first aid. Had lidocaine gel after cool water and gel pack but still hurt. I had to use the one good hand to download the software and then sign up, put in a credit card, and then down two hours on the phone with tech support only to be told they couldn't help me and I should install the app on my phone....by then the pharmacy was closed and I was really hoping to just get some stronger burn cream but Nooooo! I finally talked to a very nice person about 3-4 hours after the scald and she was going to call in script for stronger lidocaine and another burn cream to prevent infection. Got to pharmacy as soon as it opened and one script there and the other not.. but SMA online said they wrote Rx for two... another systems problem on top of the windows version of the software just not working I could write a book on this but the bottom line is there is a ton of room for improvement!
