| - Huge hit with visiting guests .
An eclectic metropolitan place in the heart of downtown Phoenix. Worth a trip, great for visitors.
What I like: the whole concept of turning a department store from the 1940's into a restaurant, but keeping or reinterpreting some of the original design features.
staff is friendly, menu small but big enough to find something - it's Italianesque, think wine bar food but huge portions. They use San Marzano tomato sauce on pizza, which means they are trying to be authentic.
Why it's quirky: the glass floored elevator shaft, the last supper recreated with porcelain dolls in the basement, the unisex bathrooms in all their 1985 neon lighting and night club pounding music glory,
What's so so - the food was okay, they definitely try to be upscale, i've just had similar dishes at local places like the Vig or North, that were a notch up. My meal was under 30 and that included a drink and dessert, so overall a good deal.
And I would come back if I was downtown for a show in an upscale setting.
Unless you live downtown, I don't see there's much of a reason to become a regular, but it was a huge hit with our out of town guests.
