  • I fly often, and the past two trips from LA to Pittsburgh have been through United. I agree with the poster who wrote "new lows with costumer service." When I was checking in early morning out of Pittsburgh at a United kiosk, the following conversation transpired between myself and the lady working behind the counter: United Lady- "Hey! Excuse me, what's your name? I can check you in here." Me- I'm fine thanks, I've got it. Thank you though. Lady- Well what's your credit card number? Or your last name. Or your first and last name. Me- I've got it, thanks Lady- (almost shouting at me) Do you have your booking number? Or your final destination?? Me- No thanks, really, I've got it on the kiosk. I'd rather use this because it allows me the option of choosing my seat on the plane, which I'm doing now. Lady- (in a degrading tone), Well fine. I guess you just want me to fall asleep on my job since you won't let me help you." She then proceeded to storm off to the back and not come out for several minutes when another costumer actually did need help. Once on the plane, how do I put this delicately- I was seated next to a very large woman who clearly needed to be in two seats. It was the last row in the plane and I could see the flight attendants hold their breath and then breathe a sigh of relief when they saw that I was the one to sit down. I'm extremely petite at 5'2 and 90 lbs, and literally anyone slightly larger than me would not have been able to sit. In hindsight I should have said something, but I could tell the lady was embarrassed and I did not know what to say at the time. I had an almost 5 hour plane ride with some random lady's fat spilling over the seating and taking up half of mine; it was extremely uncomfortable with a stranger pressed up against me. The airline should have gotten me a new seat or refunded me the ticket if the plane was full. If the passenger had been an average sized adult, they would have been forced to address the issue as the person would not have fit. Other minor annoyances occurred on these two flights such as the flight running out of snacks to order, and a flight attendant passing me by when I asked for a credit card application. The airline staff repeatedly treated me like I was 15 (I'm 26 but look very young). I've flown enough to know that no commercial airline nowadays is a walk in the park, but I've found this one to be particularly unpleasant on multiple occasions.
