| - I've been to the Fat Heads in North Olmstead, Ohio, but it was sadly two years ago... remembering that there was one in Pittsburgh on my night I spent there, I went -- obviously... that's why I'm typing up a review, right?
For a Monday night at something like 10:30pm, it was surprisingly busy. The Pirates' game had just finished up, but even still, I was a bit shocked. The building has one of the better sports bar vibes I've seen, and I really liked it. It's not a very large dining space, but it's not exactly cozy either.
My girlfriend and I decided to get the buffalo cauliflower appetizer ... this was before I forgot to remind myself and her that the portions here (or, at least in North Olmstead) are absolutely insane. The buffalo cauliflower was, how shall I say... boomin'. The cauliflower are flash fried and not breaded, which I wasn't expecting, but they were awesome. The buffalo sauce is tasty with a surprisingly hefty heat, and the bleu cheese on the side was incredible. I love me some chunky bleu cheese.
The hipster cheesesteak I ordered wasn't as delicious as the Cuyahoga burger I had at the Ohio location, but it was still great -- loaded with thin slices of steak, some sausage, a little cheese, a hefty amount of broccoli rabe, and a bit of cherry pepper mayo. I enjoyed it, but I couldn't help but feel like I either needed some more cheese or seasoning on the steak.
Service was great, food was really good, and the beer is some of the better stuff you'll have (the Bourbon Barrel Aged Battle Axe was fantastic), assuming you enjoy craft beer. There are a ton of dining options in Pittsburgh, but you'll be hard-pressed to find one that will fill you up quite as much as Fat Heads.
