| - First visit, first impression: a very nice place with a cool vibe with delicious food that approaches the quality of many high-end restaurants on the strip. Vintner's is somewhat hidden in an office complex, which somehow adds to the coolness of the place.
We walked in to find low ceilings; an old movie showing on translucent, hanging screens; fabric dividers between the larger sections of the restaurant; and a large bar in the middle of it all. Like I said--pretty cool! Folks were dressed nicely, but not stuffy. While not required, jackets for the guys and nice slacks or skirts for the gals throughout the restaurant ensured a special atmosphere without being stuffy. We did see a few folks in very casual clothing and even jeans, but I have to believe they probably felt underdressed.
We were told to make a reservation because of the popularity of the place, and the advice was good. We were seated quickly, and it was clear if we didn't have a reserved table, we would have had to go elsewhere. The hostess was very courteous but our waiter seemed to go back and forth between wanting to impress us (which is a bit awkward), and being a bit put out that he was working. He wasn't rude, but seemed...preoccupied. The service was fine, but in the end he's the only reason this isn't a 4-star review.
The menu rivaled many of the more expensive places around town. The food was delicious but it took a while for it to come out after we ordered, frankly longer than it seemed it probably should have, but we didn't mind since we were there to enjoy a leisurely and relaxing evening. We enjoyed pan seared Halibut and a ribeye followed by dessert for each of us (salted caramel creme brulet and tiramisu), and accompanied dinner with a beer, a moscow mule and a coffee. The bill came to $126: a reasonable price for the quality of the food and the convenience of having a place like this so close to home.
Parking is easy: you can self park or valet and it's all very close to the restaurant. There are even reserved spots for the restaurant, but watch the signs. There are also quite a few spots marked as "not restaurant parking" (rather than marked as reserved for another business by name). It gave me the impression the restaurant doesn't have a good relationship with it's neighbors.
If you're looking for a place for a nicer evening out but don't want to truly dress up, give Vintner Grill a try. I think you'll like it. Related, here's a final thought: I mentioned the waiter kept my rating lower than it would have been otherwise. After just that one visit, it's clear I need to go back to find out what's normal. Even though I marked this as a 3-star rating, based on what we've heard from so many of our friends I expect a return visit or two will result in a revised, higher rating. (Looks like I have an excuse to go back!)
