  • This review REALLY should have been written after my husband and I returned from a very mini-honeymoon to Toronto in May 2013. We stayed at this hotel from Friday, May 24th - Sunday, May 26th and, for the most part, our stay was excellent. When we checked in, we were greeted by a friendly staff, including a young lady who inquired about us staying for our honeymoon. We affirmed that and later on that evening, there was a bottle of champagne and a business card (I think the lady's name was Jennifer) in our room when we returned. At the time I booked the flight online, I used my credit card; but when we signed in at the hotel, we used my husband's card, which links to our joint banking account. So, we were still unsure which would be charged (will ask in the future). The room we had was beautiful, spacious, and with a very comfortable bed. Between, that, the friendly staff, the champagne, and other factors, it really made for a great honeymoon experience, which is why I am giving four stars. In fact, we were on a high, right up until the day of checkout, when our mood was deflated by this rude, inconsiderate douchebag- he wasn't even the Summer's Eve type of douchebag, but the archaic one comprised of vinegar and water. Now, I have traveled many times, for personal and business reasons and have stayed in a diverse array of lodgings, a few with different check-out systems. For example, for checkout I've gotten a bill under the door and paid at the front desk; gotten no bill under the door and checked out at the front desk; or checked out via the tv console, to name a few options. If it is not clear that the bill has been paid, I like to go and verify, which is what I did that quiet, Sunday morning in the empty hotel lobby, save for two staff members- the douchebag and his fellow staff member standing by quietly watching. My husband politely approached the douchebag and asked him if this was a final bill or receipt, to which the guy replied in a very curt and annoyed tone that it wasn't, then gives us this baleful look, clearly not intent on hiding his displeasure. I will be honest, I opened my mouth in shock. I don't expect or believe the world to be all rosy, especially in certain environments. But, as a customer at a fairly nice hotel, this behavior was the last thing I expected. When these things happen, especially when the other person doesn't know you, you search for possible explanations: 1) did I do something-was I rude; 2) is it something about my appearance (e.g. attire, race, interracial couple, etc.); or 3) is it this person (e.g., bad day, innate douchebag). I know it wasn't the first, so I'm leaning towards the second or third option. I remained calm and stepped forward to ask him which card was used, which also wasn't noted on the receipt, to which he replied snappily, "Whichever one you registered!" I must say, I'm proud that I didn't give him an All-Star Black Woman Show Off performance, because he had CLEARLY purchased front-row tickets to one. Through clenched teeth, I responded, "Sir, we provided TWO cards at the time of check in." He looked and told us which one. But, I shouldn't even have to tell him that- I am the customer. If I want to know which card was charged, pull your pink panties with the yellow polka dots out of your butt, look the information up, and freaking TELL me!! I would consider staying at this hotel again, but I will be ready for this tool the next time- if he is still there. I hope he's gotten a new attitude, changed underwear, or something, because the next time he pulls this BS with me, I'm handing him his negative energy right back to him- magnified. In the meanwhile, I'm going to TripAdvisor next to post this and maybe Tweet it, once I can figure how to get this to under 150 characters. :-)
