  • Stay away! Don't use them! Find another provider! Do whatever you can to avoid this service at all costs!!!! Disclosure: I use Cox for internet, basic TV,, HBO, and Starz only at this time! I actually didn't have TV for the last 1 1/2 years (until October 2013) but agreed to add basic TV, HBO, and Starz for $5/month as it was SO cheap (what a mistake..read on). I only use Cox as I can't get AT&T Uverse, don't want a satellite service or DSL, and actually dislike Time/Warner even more. I'm stuck with Cox as my provider. Products/Bundles: Here is the ONLY good news. They offered a "Flex" bundle in October '13 that included internet, basic TV (local channels), HBO, and Starz for 1 year without a contract. It includes 1 cable box and was supposed to include free hook up. The price for internet alone was $61.99/mo. Add $5.00/mo for the TV, HBO, and Starz for a total (before tax) of $66.99. That's a good price compared to the competition at the time. I'll use the TV service for 1 year only and then get rid of it when the pricing goes to $114.00/mo. Quality: The quality is what you'd expect from a cable provider. HD channels look good on my TV. Service interruptions are limited. The internet (up to 30Mb) is OK. The speed is adequate for upload and downloads. Streaming from Amazon is OK but does get interrupted a lot. It seems the signal strength (in our small condo) isn't very strong. Service: In this area, they are ABYSMAL performers. The operators regularly contradict one another when you are trying to fix a billing or service issue. I regularly hear, "well, you shouldn't have been told that..I'm sorry.". The billing system is so dysfunctional that their own staff can't figure out what is happening. Many times I've been told, "it needs to be looked into" and " a manager will call you back" (THEY NEVER CALL BACK..FYI). The service is simply awful from beginning to end. Billing & Additional Charges: WATCH OUT!!! WATCH OUT!! WATCH OUT!!! This is a "one time charge" happy company!! They will charge you (even if they said they wouldn't) for everything possible (extra lines, extra equipment, ANY service call to your house, etc.) You MUST check your bill every month. When I signed up in October I expected my first bill to be about $70 ($66.99+ tax/fees). My first bill was $172.00 after $100 of "one time charges" were added. They even forgot to turn on one service during the installation. I was charged $50.00 for a service call to turn on what they had forgotten. If they hook up additional lines in your house they will charge for every line over the first. As a side note, I was a customer in Arizona prior to October. Cox (a nationwide company) couldn't transfer my account and the CA offices couldn't "talk to" the AZ offices to transfer my account credit. I had to wait for a check in the mail to get my money back after 2 months of trying!!! Wow!! That was a terrible experience by itself. I was able to get all on time charges on my CA account removed after 5 different calls to Cox over 1 month with about 3 hours of my life consumed by the effort. KEEP AND EYE ON YOUR CHARGES AND FIGHT THEM TO THE END!!! Overall, this is not a good company. I do not believe they are efficient, effective, or trustworthy in the delivery of their product (bundles, billing, service calls, etc.). I do not believe the proper ethics, policies, or procedures are in place at the enterprise level to protect consumers from abuse (and I'm only buying internet and basic cable without a contract). I can't imagine being constricted and bound to an actual contract with Cox. DON'T USE THIS SERVICE IF YOU CAN AVOID IT!!!
