Love being in the fresh air of the mountains and have adventures through various activities like hiking or snowboarding? I would recommend visiting for the day in the mountains and not stay the night here. It was my birthday weekend as my boyfriend and I stayed there for three nights. The outside looks renovated but the interior does not, more specifically, the rooms. The rooms were extremely small like a motel, with very, very simple amenities. We reserved a King bed room for $130 a night. In all aspect, it should be valued at $40 a night. There is no internet unless you go up to the Lodge restaurant near Cathedral Rock for anything if you are lucky.
Good: The staff was exceptionally friendly and helpful. Great mountain views as it was two weeks after their last snow. They had two small tables in the lobby for chess and a large Jenga set. We saw a cute cat in front of the building. Arcade games were scattered in the main hall.
Bad: The food was subpar at the restaurant and bar, very basic and plain. I ordered the lobster mac and cheese bites that were still frozen inside! The room only had only basic tv and few HBO channels. The other movie channels were not assessable unless there was internet...then again there wasn't any internet there! The towels are super small; no tissues; no duvet or comforters just sheets; no small fridge; no coffee or electric water kettle. The bathroom was a squeeze with the tiny tub/shower. My boyfriend was tall and the odd voltive ceilings were a huge problem. The walls are thin and the door frames do not fit the wall to the hallway where lots of light seeps in in the tiny room! The gift shop was always closed.
Since it is only 45-60 minutes from Las Vegas, you'll get better quality and value for your money and time by finding a hotel or Air BnB there and travel for the day to the Mt. Charleston on the easy peasy road 157 Kyle Canyon Rd.
