| - Battista's Hole in the Wall
Location/Parking: Battista's is a quick, easy walk from the Strip in a little strip mall across from Bally's. Look for the big sign. You can't miss it. But don't even think about driving there, because by the end of dinner you won't be able to drive home.
Atmosphere: Always crowded. Always a wait. Plan ahead. Seriously. Don't just show up when you're hungry on a Friday evening and think you're gonna waltz right in. Not even on a random Tuesday night. It's always packed with at least an hour wait. Call ahead.
That said, it's totally worth the wait. Very friendly, cozy, warm atmosphere with a wandering accordion player. Nice touch, that. Not too loud, not too stuffy, no screaming brats. Nothing fancy and it probably hasn't been renovated since well, ever, but it's a nice place for dinner with friends or a long, relaxing date. Just maybe not a first date.
Cleanliness/Service: Decent enough service. No issues regarding cleanliness. I've been here half a dozen times and have never had a bad experience.
Food/Drinks: It's not authentic homemade Italian like your Grandma used to make, but it's not high school cafeteria crap either. Huge portions so don't fill up on the bread. Well, unless you're already on your second carafe of wine. Think Olive Garden or Carrabba's quality with unlimited wine.
So far I've tried the Lasagna, Chicken Parmegiana, and Chicken Rio. They're all good but the Chicken Rio is my favorite. A friend of mine had the salmon (fresh fish of the day) and said it was very good. I keep meaning to try something different, you know, to give a more thorough review, but the Chicken Rio is just so good. Maybe next time.
And the after dinner Cappuccino. Best. Cappuccino. Ever. Yum. I mean seriously. I would go there just for that. It's delicious. Very hot chocolate-y. Not sure if it's a legit cappuccino or not, but honestly, who cares?!
Price: About $28 per person, but that includes your entrée, unlimited hot garlic bread, salad or soup, and wine. Yes, wine. House red, house white, or both if you ask nicely. The unlimited wine makes the price much better. It's definitely a good value for the money. You'll never leave hungry. Or sober.
I love this place and try to visit two or three times a year. It never gets old. Don't forget to tip the accordion player to play you a tune. He's old. He might not be there next time.
