  • Update written 9-7-16: Within 24 hours I received a call from the MD over specialists at Southwest Medical. I'm moving them from one to two stars for at least making the effort. I'm still not pleased with the original situation but there's nothing that can be done about it now except hopefully having them pay a bit more attention to what a patient is saying. Also, I got FIVE star help on another issue having to do with needing my medical records... so thank you Jeff in Patient Experience Dept (I think that's what it's called) and Rose and Michelle in medical records. I know you bent over backwards to make that happen quickly and sincerely appreciate it! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I'm sorry to have to write this review but it's very difficult to communicate with Southwest Medical to help them improve. That is the ONLY reason for this review. Experience varies widely location by location and department by department. This ONLY applies to Endocrinology and I am only writing so SWM can improve. I have thyroid disease. When my insurance changed I had to change doctors. The new endocrinologist wasn't happy with the meds I was prescribed and didn't miss the opportunity to chastise me and make fun of the doctor(s) who prescribed it. (When I answered his questions about who I had seen in the past it was "never heard of him" "never heard of him either" !! Let's forget that SW Medical primary care wrote the last few prescriptions OR that I had to fight to actually see a specialist instead of having a thyroid disorder managed by a great doc but not the appropriate specialty AND neurology was pushing me to see endo because they were trying to figure out why I'm having a whole bunch of weird symptoms. The endocrinologist wrote a new prescription and I discontinued the old. A few weeks later I was sick. I don't mean just a little... I mean reeling with nausea, unable to get out of bed, throwing up, am I dying, kind of sick! (If alcohol had been involved, it would have been like the following morning when you are moaning "never again') I sent an e-visit to Endo saying how sick I was and indicating it happened some time after new Rx. Response? "not side effects of meds. go to primary care" Sooooooo.... waited to see primary care, went through a lot of expensive tests including an endoscopy, ENT exam and bloodwork. Nothing found. Back to primary care for symptom management, two Rx for nausea sort of worked for a while then didn't. Sent another e-visit to Endo explaining situation. Response? "cut one of the meds in half". OK. Cut meds in half. cut nausea down 80% and fatigue in half. Sooo... if my symptoms were not a side effect, why did you let me SUFFER so long before saying cut them in half? I was trying to trust the doctor and be compliant and for that I was made to suffer months. There's only one word for this. INHUMANE
