  • I'm not super impressed, but I'm also not horribly disappointed. I went to Arctic Bites the 3rd day it opened (didn't plan on going, but a friend mentioned it and we were on a food crawl, so we went), and I was fairly impressed by the flavor of the ice cream and the product I was given for the price I paid. I came to QQ because when I was at the Toronto Food Festival, we saw a lineup for another Thai rolled ice cream place (cuz hype and all) and my parents and grandfather were interested, but we opted not to line up. We had had dinner at Sika Deer Chinese Cuisine, and I figured that because we were in the area, it'd be cute to take Grandpa there. Grandpa recently discovered the joys of ice cream and popsicles. We ordered their matcha (his choice). After the girl made my ice cream, I was told to pick three toppings. I chose mixed coconut jellies, my father chose blueberries, and I was going to choose popping boba because Grandpa's never had it, but for reasons completely unbeknownst to me, Grandpa chose Fruit Loops. He's never had cereal that I know of, much less sugary cereal, so I'm pretty sure he didn't know what he was getting into. The girl then put whipped cream, what I'm guessing was condensed milk drizzle, and two sticks of matcha pocky on top to complete our dessert. Taste-wise, there was some matcha flavor, but the toppings (cough cough. Fruit Loops) overwhelmed it. It needed to be stronger. Portion-wise, it being $6.50, the same price or just $0.50 cheaper than Arctic bites, it needed to be bigger. There were 6 rolls of ice cream, if I remember right. It didn't completely fill up the bowl. If you're not willing to go downtown and you want to try rolled ice cream, this isn't a bad place to come for it, but unless you're interested in paying for the experience, this isn't where you want to go for ice cream. Side note: After this experience, I remember again why this is probably only the second time I've ever eaten Fruit Loops....
