I am about to move to Baltimore City from the county. I reached out to progressive to receive a quote when Geico wanted to increase my insurance premium $30/month. I looked online and asked to be contacted about a quote. I was contacted right away. The representative on the phone took all of my information. I asked her to compare apples to apples to my previous policy. I went policy item by policy item with her. I was then quoted $87.25/month with the first month being around $43.81. Since this was my first quote, I wanted to wait a day to think about it.
I called Geico the next day to cancel my policy because the Progressive quote would have saved me $10/month. However, after I cancelled my Geico policy and called Progressive to set up the new policy, they changed the quote to $97.25 and said there was nothing they could do. The reason they claimed was that there was a final piece regarding accident history. The lady on the phone did not ask me about my accident history when she quoted me and was ready to sign up for the policy. I was quoted $87.25 and answered all her questions.
I expressed that when you receive a quote from a representative you want their representative to get all the information before quoting you a price. The representative from Progressive sounded like she got all the information because she was ready to have me sign up at the $87.25 price.
I feel this company is a scam. If they can increase their policy payment by $10 in one day to a PERSPECTIVE client, imagine what they will do to their actual clients.I'm frustrated because had I have known they were going to do this, I wouldn't have cancelled my policy with Geico. Geico and Progressive now want the same amount per month-$97.25. Because of this I ended up calling Geico back and going back to them. I want an insurance company I can trust. Progressive represenatives seemed unqualified to give proper quotes and I feel scammed. I feel my time was wasted with them.
Progressive lost a potential client for life. I'm never looking into this company again other than to share this experience so it doesn't happen to others.
