| - When I first moved to Calgary, I searched high and low for wood-fired pizza, to no avail.
After visiting the Urban Bakery, I can tell you now that it turns out I just wasn't looking in the right place.
I don't blame myself - who would guess that the Urban Bakery, which sells the usual bakery suspects such as bread, buns, cookies and slices, would also be serving up speciality wood-fired pizzas? They use their own special whole wheat flaxseed crust and use gourmet toppings like artichoke hearts and smoked cheeses. They also make a couple different wood-fired sandwiches on their homemade bread.
I didn't know then, but I know now, to go to the Urban Baker to get my pizza fix. Any day but Monday, that is. I suffered the fate of going there on a Monday, so no pizza unfortunately. But I didn't suffer long because I bought a chocolate ganache brownie for $2.14, which turned out to be a heck of a consolation prize. The dense chocolate brownie base served merely to support a thick dark chocolate ganache with milk chocolate drizzle, and it went down nicely with a tall glass of milk.
