  • This edition of Excited about Eating takes us to one of our favorite neighborhoods in Charlotte, Plaza Midwood, and to Zada Jane's Corner Café. This beachfront themed café advertises a menu that is half vegetarian and half meat. Although breakfast is their focus and served all day, their lunch menu includes sandwiches, salads, and many unique sides, and their dinner menu is full of delicious options. Dora here. This place has been on our list since we visited The Workman's Friend directly across the street and gawked at the crowded patio. Today was no different. The place was jammed with a thirty-minute wait. Service was friendly and attentive and more than welcoming, even if we were among the oldest ones there. For my lunch, I chose the South of NO North omelet, which included country ham, caramelized onions, green chilies, cheddar cheese and covered with homemade salsa and served with a side of stone ground grits and a homemade TLC biscuit. This omelet was great and worked together perfectly with the onions and chilies to bring this dish to the next level. The salsa added a little heat, and when combined with the grits, made a wonderful bite. Dora here. The Vegless Avenger, an omelet packed with meats (bacon, country ham, turkey sausage, chipotle chicken and chorizo) along with a healthy dose of cheddar cheese popped with flavor. The egg was light yet held up to all five meats. Typically I'm not a meat-lover when it comes to omelets or pizzas, but the chipotle chicken and chorizo combination intrigued me. One bite led to two and three, and don't you know I ate that whole thing! And the biscuit with apple butter, oh my goodness! I'm trying to cut back on all these carbs, but that biscuit made it tough. The sweet potato hash didn't do much for me. Probably because I prefer my sweet taters loaded with butter and brown sugar. lol. Still Dora. Fair warning. The inside of Zada Jane's is extremely LOUD. Don't go there expecting to enjoy a quiet morning coffee. Not gonna happen. Not even outside. lol. Also, for parking, they have a small lot behind the restaurant, but don't bother. There's ample parking in a lot kitty corner across the street. You can thank us later. What's your favorite omelet? We rate this restaurant 4 forks out of 5 for a family friendly restaurant serving great food. ~Ernie & Dora Hiers, Fiction Faith & Foodies Blog
