  • I first went to Orient Kitchen in autumn of 1994. My college friend Bany showed me it. At the time they were still located on Semple St. in South Oakland. We often went there for the amazing lunch specials, back then for literally $3.00 or $3.50 you could get an awesome nice sized aluminum container filled with steamed rice, your lunch choice and covered with a plastic lid to keep it piping hot. And a can of pop for $0.50. My favorite selection was chicken with baby bok choy in a clear garlic sauce or shrimp with egg (the egg was broken over top the rice and shrimp and was cooked by the heat!); mmm such happy memories.
