  • Five Stars!! June '17 - The home we now own had been foreclosed a couple years before we purchased it. We were told the family that was here before us had pets and kids and the upstairs carpet was horribly stained and had pet urine stinking all the way down in the mat. It was in really bad shape. We replaced that smelly carpet last week and it looks fantastic! At Home Depot, we chose a waterproof mat because we also have pets, a toddler and this gal (by this gal I mean I) like red wine. It seemed natural to get carpeting that would make easier carpet cleaning that wouldn't soak and ruin the mat underneath and a neutral berber that would hide potential stains. Home Depot contracted JW Floor Covering, who was on-time and did a superb job installing the new carpet for approximately 1200 square feet and took away all the remnants of the old stuff. In preparation, we had already moved most of the smaller items out of the way, but this Father-Son team helped move furniture room to room so they could move-on to installation in the next room. JW Floor Covering were hard-working gentlemen. Five stars! 2 Stars!! September '17 - Because we had such a great experience with HD in June, we used HD again for entire flooring replacement in our upstairs bathrooms and entire downstairs. We purchased the flooring early July '17, but no installers were available until mid August '17. It's disappointing because our second experience with JW Floor Covering was mediocre at best. We knew going into the process that the detailed nature of leveling for new vinyl flooring would take 5 days and it was a different team who finally showed up. The two gentlemen were scheduled on a Monday morning to arrive by 9:30am. When noone showed up by 10:30, I called HD who made some calls and called back telling me the installers had vehicle problems and would start installation the next day. The installers did FINALLY show-up about 2:30 Monday afternoon, only for them to take an hour to remeasure if enough flooring was ordered and then tell me they could work only until 5:00. I told them, "don't bother today and since you already lost a day, please be back first thing tomorrow morning by 8:30." And they agreed. Jose also told HD, who told my husband that their car issues would not cause a delay in finishing by Friday like HD had originally scheduled. Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, they arrived by 10:00 because "traffic from North LV to Henderson." There was zero urgency for Jose and Raphael to show-up on time any day and finish by Friday because they were planning to finish sometime the following week. Our family cancelled our weekend plans so they would finish Saturday. Every day it was something - traffic, vehicle problems again and it was at a point when I just wanted them gone because we'd had toilets removed for flooring installation and wanted our home back to live in after living only upstairs for 5 days. The flooring itself looks nice. HOWEVER, take a look at how they unnecessarily shaved down portions of door frames, base-boards and jacked-up some corners with improperly measured quarter-round and misapplied caulking, and those details are not-so-pretty. We already knew there would be a noticeable gap going from tile flooring to vinyl flooring so HD had ordered quarter-round to be applied against the base-boards to help cover-up, but I didn't believe the end-product would be so ugly in some areas. There was some noticable damage from removing the old laminate that the installers failed to repair. Again, I just wanted this particular team out. I hate to give JW this negative review after Alex and his dad installed carpet and I gave them 5 stars, but the new vinyl flooring was such a negative experience. After making HD aware of the flooring issues, HD is sending an inspector on September 8th and I'll update this review. So on September 8, Doug from JW was on time and did the quality installation inspection and he kept shaking his head in disbelief that it really did look as bad as we said in complaint. Doug scheduled Brian to fix the issues on September 25. Brian was on time and spent pretty much all day redoing the most noticeable areas in the kitchen and bathrooms. Thank you, Brian for fixing the obvious rips in the drywall from Jose's and Raphael's carelessness that they should have fixed correctly in the first place, although I am sorry it was necessary. The moral of the story: if you need carpet, ask for Alex and Larry to install it. No issues or complaints. They're fantastic. If you need vinyl flooring, AVOID-AVOID-AVOID Jose and Raphael, unless you don't have anything more important to do than spending many many hours fixing rips in drywall, recaulking and touch-up painting.
