| - I love BBQ and try to hit different spots nationwide. I was in Vegas and wanted to do off-Strip stuff this time around. We decided to give this place a try given the great reviews. Location, we are talking about a dark street next to a gentleman's club akin to uber hole in the wall. Only in Vegas!
So we were greeted at the door by a taxidermed hog and in front of us in line were three police officers... My thoughts-heck yah we were in for something good!
Customer service was top notched. I ordered the 1/2 rack baby backs ($17.99) and a pound of the brisket ($10.99). Floored that sides were not included as with typical BBQ spots, which makes the pricing on the expensive side.
Baby backs came out and the color was a rich coffee grind black and just brilliant. I was expecting some excellent bark. But, oh Romeo, alas it was not meant to be! There was no texture to the bark although the meat did fall off the bones. The dry rub was mehhhh. The three sauces had a more watery consistency than traditional BBQ sauces, which is absolutely fine. There were three varieties - mama sweet, house, and BBQ. The house had a nice balance between sweet and vinegar and was our favorite. The brisket had what amounted to a peppercorn rub. They love the peppercorn at this place. Perhaps it was the end of the night, but it came out very dry. We ended up not eating most of it it, which was a shame.
While dining, we eavesdropped on a conversation. Apparently this is Rick's (of Pawn Star fame) favorite spot and he and Rollin teamed up to open another spot in Rick's strip center by his pawn shop. Well, sounds like Rick is rollin in the dough with his Rollin location, which we will check out next time we are in town.
Overall 3.5 stars. Not good enough to round to 4 though considering we've had so much better nationwide.
