| - My husband and I have been taking our 3 chihuahuas to this practice for over 3 years now. However, I'm not so sure how I feel about this place anymore. The last visit, I had called to schedule an appointment for swollen anal glands letting the receptionist know it might be an "anal gland tumor" after doing some research online, the receptionist advised that an appointment was not necessary and that the best time to come in without a long wait would be around 3:30-4. I brought in my dog at 3:30. After signing in, we waited for about 45 minutes until I got impatient and asked her how much longer we would have to wait. The receptionist immediately got an OK to take my dog to the back. Less than 5 minutes, she came out and said that we would need to get a room to get her examined by the vet. Umm, didn't I let you know that they needed to be seen by the vet? We waited another 20 minutes for a room. Finally a vet we've never seen before comes in; Dr. Grace Dahlgren. Apparently Dr. Christenson is no longer with this practice. I explained the frustration about the unnecessary long wait, and Dr. Dahlgren says she would "waive" the exam fee for the inconvenience. But wait a minute.. I was never charged an "examination fee" during my previous visits; In fact, I thought they were known to not charge for exam fees?
Anyway, she takes my dog in to the back, and the assistant brings her back less than 5 minutes after. Then we wait for the doctor... She finally comes in and tells us that we would need to wait for the anal glands to "rupture" before they were able to do anything. She prescribes antibiotics and pain killers, and tells us to come back once it's been ruptured.
They still charge me for an anal gland expression and when I questioned it the receptionist removed the charge. So basically we spent more than 1.5 hours of our time just to be given antibiotics and painkillers without actually getting anything treated. It's been more than a week since our visit, and I'm concerned and worried because the anal glands are still swollen and is actually looking worse.
So do I just "wait for the anal glands to rupture" and for how long?? I mean, this is the second time we went in for the same problem. Dr. Christenson was able to do whatever he needed to do for the swollen anal gland. She didn't need to come home only for her to suffer until it needed to "rupture".
