Quirky and fun hotel...but tight quarters.
My boyfriend and I booked this hotel for a one night stay end of September 2016. I love plaid and all things preppy and graduated Madison in 1985 so was very excited to stay at this hotel.
Our first experience was the parking....which is really non existent. I pulled my Volvo station wagon into the "parking garage" so to speak, but there was no parking and no way to turn around so my boyfriend had to back out while I got out of the car and directed him so we wouldn't back into the white concrete wall. Drove around looking for parking....no luck.
Parked in front to check in and the desk clerk told us we could park at the public parking garage almost 3 blocks away. Then I went to sign the receipt and it stated we would be charged $12.00 per night for parking. I challenged this since we would have to pay to park in the public lot. Of course they said we would not have to pay that charge.
Went up to our room in the teeny tiny elevators and the musty smell we smelled when we walked in continued in the elevator and was really bad in the hallway to our room. Hallways are very tight and the ceilings are very low. I didn't realize this was an older building.Know that the tight space is understandable...but for the price of the room which was $238.00 it was disappointing.
The room was warm so I thought I turned on the fan on the thermostat in the room. Unfortunately, unbeknownst to us the air conditioning was turned off for the season so only HEAT would come out. We opened the windows for air and that only made the heat worse. No fan so if you turn off the heat there is not air circulation which explains the "musty" smell throughout the hotel.
We came back from dinner and I tried to get comfortable but just couldn't. We decided to just pack up and go home after only really spending about 2 hours in the room.
TO THE HOTEL'S CREDIT...THEY OFFERED TO COMP THE ROOM AND MAKE SURE WE DID NOT GET CHARGED. I DID NOT ASK THEM TO DO THIS.
I think if tight spaces don't bother you the location and decor and experience of the hotel is fantastic!
