| - Beer makes people happy! Before writing this review I checked the glasses I have from previous beer fest years, it turns I have a proof of attendance since 2008. Windsor station was really perfect spot for the beer fest, but the event obviously grew bigger and extensively popular, and last year the fun finally moved to Palais des Congres that provides more space and also outdoor area.
I think I would have rated the beer fest with four stars, but this year, thanks to Yelp, I had a totally different experience and learned how good is to have a VIP pass. Now I'm hooked for life, the VIP pass is the logical choice to maximize your beer happiness.
My first happy evening was at the gourmet event Flaveurs Bières et Caprices. Twelve amazing beers from Brazil, Germany, Italy, USA, Norway, Canada and one perfect cider from Quebec, paired elegantly with delicious small dishes. Had a great time and met some interesting people who were sitting at our table.
Second happy evening was at the beer fest itself. The pass gives you access to the VIP zone Flaveurs Bières et Caprices, which is in fact the Cafe of Viger Hall. The happiness of this place consists of all you can drink and all you can imagine beer, some cheeses and other little goodies to snack on, small terrace and life music. I actually could have spent my night there, but curiosity and 30 coupons brought me to the Viger hall, or the other, the real face of the beer fest.
The beer fest is in reality massive event, endless stands of beer producers, snacks, crowds of predominantly young people moving frantically around, holding dear glasses, producing a lot of noise and periodically shouting something that may be cheers that spreads as a wave in the hall. I guess somebody will ask why bother being there. Because there are beers from all over the world with incredible flavours and even more important all the amazing Quebec microbreweries are gathered at the same location for our pleasure.
My highlights this year, local ginger beers and few brews from New Holland Brewery (White Pale Ale baby).
Conclusion the beer fest is absolutely wonderful happening. Next year I would seriously consider the VIP pass, most probably without the gourmet evening as drinking few days in a raw is demanding obligation, but for whoever is interested in good beers that may be out of stock in the general admission area, the VIP area provides endless flow of good brew and for this reason only is worth buying the pass. Cheers!
