My ranking of this location is inextricably tied in to the great memories I have of HARRY POTTER MIDNIGHT RELEASES! Ever since "Goblet of Fire" way back in 2000, when I inexplicably found myself in the middle of the midnight madness, this had been my standard HP-party location. Oh the sweet melancholy that arises when I recall standing in line with the unwashed masses (very often younger than myself) eagerly awaiting an Indigo associate's bleating countdown to midnight and the rush to the till, to snatch up the latest installment, take it directly home and read it in one sitting. Who needs sleep!? SNAPE KILLS DUMBLEDORE (NOOOOOoooooo!!) my Lord what a rush.
Nowadays I find myself coming back to this location more and more; their impressive (and extremely overpriced) AV section has been pared back significantly and replaced with (what else) a Starbucks. They always seem to have the best selection of fiction - hello William Gaddis! - and their history, philosophy, poetry and performing arts sections are the most extensive out of all Indigo locations. A good bargain section as well. I prefer the warmer earthy interior tones of Chapters to Indigo's white-washed exposed guts, but there is no better (chain) bookstore in SW Calgary.
