  • I, unfortunately, had a very negative experience with OffLeash. They put my 10 week old puppy in a metal prong collar, assuring me it was the safest, best thing for him (against my better judgment). When we went to the vet for a checkup she immediately advised me to take the collar off, pointing out where his skin was already tender and how it could do damage to a puppy of his age. My vet also observed my puppy's behavior, diagnosed him with anxiety and impulse control issues, and recommended some other trainers who use more up to date research on dog behaviorism. Here's the scoop... OffLeash uses shock collars and aversive training methods to discourage undesired behaviors (and it will work, but at the cost of sending your dog's cortisol levels soaring). I sat down and did the research myself... I am by no means a professional, but after several different people (including my vet) told me how the research on dog behaviorism has advanced over the past several years, I went and looked at the most RECENT scientific data. I wanted to see the numbers, the actual statistical evidence. This is just one recent article, but there is much new research out there on this issue and it continues to be a hot topic among dog behaviorists and anthropologists alike: http://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0102722 I urge you to do the research when finding a training solution for your dog. Personally, we have found a home at Zoom Room in Charlotte.
