| - I had to think hard about how I would rate Willard. In the end, I had to pick 4 stars because of the utter convenience. I appreciate that so much. My parents only live about 10 minutes from the airport, so travel here is a breeze. Also, cause it is such a small airport, you can arrive about an hour before your flight and be totally fine. If you are an experienced traveller or don't have a lot of stuff or big group, that is. It is ok to park in front of the airport for a short period of time. There is also longer term parking available. The airport also has bus, shuttle, taxi, and rental car service.
American Airlines is the only airline that flies here. That does suck. I remember the days when we had like 3 options. Flying to Champaign will frequently cost you more than flying to Bloomington - another airport close by (about 45 minutes away). Lately, I have been lucky and Champaign has been cheaper. Staff at the aiport are frequently performing multiple jobs. Secruity is quick once they are actually set up to go. No long walks to your gate at our small airport. All the gates are in one big open sitting area. Get through security and you're there. I also can blow my parents a kiss as they can see my through the secuity door (it's our tradition).
As others have mentioned, this is a no frills airport. There used to be a little diner, but I never used it anyway. I get there right before I go. I have never experienced significant delays though have been asked to give up my seat before. No problemo to fly later since my parents live so close. Though you do run the risk of having issues with later flights. The biggest issues with flights appear to be from Chicago to Champaign at night. I think my brother, dad, and I have all had at least one cancelled flight.
I am just so happy to have a convienent and easy going airport in my hometown.
