  • I nicknamed this place "The Worstgate." I've never stayed at a place that claims to be a "resort" where I'd rather stay at some roadside motel. Apparently this used to be the five star Las Vegas Hilton some 50 odd years ago and at one point was luxurious and exclusive. Not anymore. I saw the statue of Elvis in the lobby and joked that this hotel is probably old enough that Elvis died on the toilet in my room. I'm probably not wrong. Now I like a nice vintage hotel but this place is just old. Not in a charming kinda way but a dirty, sleazy kind of old. Kind of like the wrinkly, nicotine stained prostitutes that hang around in the lobby of this "resort." First, the rooms we stayed in were dirty. When I arrived at my first room, there was multiple questionable stains on the bed spread and the calling card to a hooker named Stacy behind my bed. The mattress was too big for the bed frame and was slouched over the end of the bed. They gave me the handicapped accessible room which had an automatic door that wouldn't close properly. Not to mention, the room was freezing cold and the only way to control the climate was an archaic analog thermostat that looked straight out of the 1970s. Someone in my party told me the "renovated" rooms were better and only cost $20 more per night so I decided to upgrade. The renovated rooms were worse than the older rooms - so much worse that I immediately regretted my decision to switch. First of all - the decor was gaudy and the furniture was a cheap Ikea grade set of scratched black painted furniture. The alarm clock was also broken in kind of a silly way (I included the picture). Also there were no convenient plugs near the bed. When I arrived in my new room, I was horrified. Everything was dusty and it looked as if the room hadn't been occupied in several weeks. The bathroom floors were sticky and there was a patch of dried urine with a pubic hair stuck to it on the floor. Best part - there was an opened packet of blue cheese dressing behind my nightstand and other fun trash under the bed. My sister who was staying in a different room found some questionable brown satchet on the floor by her bed that was either used chewing tobacco or some kind of drugs. There were also multiple stains on the bed and the water glasses were filthy. The pillow had an awful smell that kept me up at night and one of the towels smell like cheese. The staff was pretty friendly and apologetic at times. My sister had a long conversation with the manager over text complaining about the rooms and it seemed like he genuinely wanted to make things right. However some of them were incompetent. There are multiple security guards stationed around the hotel that interrogate you every time you're in the lobby to make sure your an actual guest and not just someone planning to stage a hotel heist. The worst was when I had left a pair of my earbuds in my old room. I asked the lady at the front desk if there was a lost and found. She called the lost and found department and then proceeded to hand me the phone from behind the desk. It went straight to a pre-recorded message that told me to go online and submit a request to contact the lost and found. Seriously - I couldn't just leave a message on the phone? I actually have to scour their website for this hidden form using their 5mb/second internet they charge $14 for? Not to mention - there was a resort fee but hardly any amenities to the resort. The pool was small and had an awful AstroTurf that was uncomfortable to walk on. The internet was slow. And there are hardly any restaurants to choose from. All of the dining options are ridiculously overpriced. My sister and I paid $41 for two orders of frozen chicken tenders and a couple of sodas. Bottled water at the coffee shop costs $4. And some lady in front of me at their coffee shop got in a fit because they were going to charge her $1.08 just to refill her hot water so she could re-use the teabag she had purchased from the coffee shop earlier. It's pretty convenient to the convention center and it's right on the tram line. It also has free self parking which was actually pretty nice and something I didn't expect from a place that sells $4 bottled water. If you're just looking for a cheap place to stay for a convention and you don't mind dirty rooms - then I suppose this hotel is okay. If you're looking for ANYTHING more than that, stay far away. EDIT: My suitcase was stolen after I left it in the hallway for exactly a minute to grab something else in the room. Security said there are absolutely no security cameras anywhere in the hotel other than the casino floor. So they have cameras to protect their money but not their guests. It was found ramsacked in the "central" bathroom on the 23rd floor. I believe that bathroom is only accessible by staff. There was paint all over it and the only person in the hall at the time happened to be a painter wearing a Westgate uniform. Interesting. STAY FAR AWAY.
