As usual, the doctor service at Scarborough Grace is good and their ward nurse services are just as good as well. As morbid to say this, Scarborough Grace seems to be one of the better places to live the last of your days if you are going to be hospitalized.
I also liked how the other nursing staff watch out for the other patients as well when they can. I didn't realize I was missing a towel and some other shower equipment before I went into the shower and another nurse assisted me with that one. I grant that they are only human and may miss a few things over the course of dealing with different patients so I don't penalize for that, but I do feel good when they work together for the betterment of all the patients (not just the squeaky ones).
I think one of the reasons for this great service was the diversity of the nursing staff between shifts. It wasn't like in the Toronto General or Toronto Western where they have clusters of nurses where there was a lack in diversity (e.g. all the same age/culture/race) in one shift that they get into nepotism causing a general lack in quality.
The hospital food was adequate (it is hospital food), though they had a problem with the system that made it not register that I was lactose intolerant for a couple of meals on the cafeteria even though the nurses' station already showed on the systems that I was.
However, my experience with the ER wasn't as great. Although it was good for the most part (the wait times were okay for the staff they had and they are busy moving around)
The ER nurse staffing was pretty bad though. It really annoys me when the nurses don't set up the call bell for the patients by default and just hear them yammer along how great their new husbands are rather than making their rounds. It's a rampant problem from the hospitals I've been to in Toronto. The main pain point was we as tax payers spend money on these equipment only that they are not used.
In short, good for the most part, but needs a review of the ER Nursing staff.
