| - Came here with a party of 3 with a reservation. I checked in when I got there and was forgotten about by the hostess who told me she would seat me in a second. I waited 5 minutes and finally asked if our table was ready and she told me she totally forgot and seated us. Not a big issue.
Our waiter was interesting... I could tell he was trying to be funny but it was awkward and I tried to redeem the yelp free edamame deal and he didn't know what it was and tried to take my phone to show his manager... thankfully before he did, he realized that he shouldn't take my phone and just ended up asking his manager. Why doesn't the staff know about deals the restaurant is offering? Pretty unprofessional....
Anyway, my friends ordered the tootsie maki and a spicy salmon roll. I was ecstatic to see miso black cod on the happy hour menu for only $10!! I've never seen such amazing fish like that for so cheap so I had to order it.
Unfortunately, it was a piece of rubber. It came out with four pieces--two large and two small served with a flavorless sauce. I ate the two small pieces, really confused and asked my friends to try. They both agreed it was cooked to sh** and encouraged me to say something. I've had black cod at many different restaurants and it usually eats like butter. This was so weird.
I said something to the waiter about it and he said thats the way the fish is and recommended the seabass which was $19. I told him that I've had black cod before and it's never like this and that I think its very overcooked and he said that everytime it gets ordered it is sent back saying it is too hard. Well, then why don't they fix it? Or take it off the menu? It pains me that such good quality fish is being wasted because the chef doesn't know how to cook it!! He told me he could have them redo it and cook it less and I agreed.
The chef came out with my fish 10 minutes later, after my friends had finished eating their meals. It came out with a different sauce (See photo) and seemed like a smaller portion. Honestly, it was worse than the first time around. I can't help but think he took the fish I sent back and put it on the grill for LONGER! It was only served with the two larger pieces (which I didn't eat the first time around) not 4 pieces and was even more rubbery (if thats even imaginable!). At that point, I was done and told the waiter it was worse and I couldn't eat it. He said the manager would come out.
The manager did and it didn't really help the situation. He offered to get me something else, which would have been nice if it was on the house, but it wasn't so why would I want to risk my money for something that could be just as bad after my friends had finished eating. I declined and he left. I was hoping for a little better customer service.
Overall, a shocking experience since I've been to sapporo before--I guess the sushi bar is just so much better than the kitchen food. I probably won't be back since there are better happy hours out there.
