Sad. Fiesta Mall is pretty much empty now. Sears and the Dillard's Clearance Center are about all that is left. Even most of the food court stores have closed. Along with Los Arcos Mall in Scottsdale and Tricity Mall in Mesa (which died when Fiesta Mall opened--ironic), the indoor malls are not faring well.
There is plenty of blame to go around for this sad ending. The City of Mesa narrowed the traffic lanes in front of the mall making even a light traffic time appear congested and rush hour pretty much not do-able. Online shopping has taken a big bite out of these malls and for some odd reason, some people prefer to trudge around outside in places like Riverview and Tempe Marketplace on 110 degree days, rather than have the comfort of an air conditioned shopping experience. Sigh.
