| - Ok, I went here today after reading the reviews. I know many people say stuff like "it is just chicken strips" and so on. My thing is this...when I review a restaurant, it is comparable to its peers, not every restaurant ever. I do not put E by Jose Andres, and Cuginos Italian Deli in the same category, even though I enjoy them both. Both are awesome and I give both 5 stars, but that is not to say they are the same. My 5 stars for BFG is in the sense that among similar type restaurants, it is excellent.
The staff working the counter were excellent here. He guy at the counter knew most of the people who came in by name and was very friendly and engaging with them. When I got to the counter, he was very friendly and welcoming. Definitely a good atmosphere.
The menu is simple. 3 types of strips..Bakes Fried Grilled. A few sides and garlic bread. Thats it. I ordered some of each type for a total of 8 strips and got it with a side of grilled vegetables, a drink and a piece of garlic bread for a little under $10.
The grilled vegetables were simple, yet very good. I enjoy getting 2 skewers of grilled veggies, even if they are just tomato, onions and zucchini. A simple, healthy dish with a good flavor. The garlic bread had pieces of real garlic on top, which was nice. It had a good strong garlic flavor, yet did not feel super buttery or greasy like some garlic bread can be.
The strips were a mixed bag. The baked strips were very plain. They were not bad, but they did not taste like anything special. They had some seasoning on them and tasted simple. I would not get them again.
The fried strips were very tasty. They did not feel greasy at all, and had a very delicious panko breading on them. They were very juicy inside and had an excellent flavor, rather than just tasting like fried garbage like a lot of chicken strips do.
The grilled strips were also very tasty. They had a little marinade in them which gave them a nice flavor, and were very juicy as well. No dried out strips at all, quite the opposite.
Despite the fact that the baked strips were subpar, the other parts were very good in all respects and the service was very good. They even said goodbye to me by name when I walked out. Very customer oriented attitude here it seems, along with a simple, inexpensive menu that offers very easy and good lunch fare.
