  • Pretzel approved, and surprisingly a nice home away from home feel... We were in a bind and needed to stay in a hotel near the University of North Carolina's Charlotte's campus to attend a tour. Unfortunately we did not have a place to board Pretzel, our loving super sweet, 80 lbs of sugar, half Pitbull half Rhodesian Ridgeback, and ended up staying at this location due to their ability to except pets. That was the beginning of this surprisingly good journey, as their fee for taking pets is extremely reasonable at $20/day. Lets get down to business... The staff at the hotel were so accommodating it was impressive. They engaged at a very personal level and treated us like we were at their homes versus a place where they are working. So hats off to the fantastic staff that supported us. Marriott, please take note. Next I took Pretzel out for a walk and found their dog walking area very accommodating. The pet walking area was well-kept even though I did end up stepping in some dog doo, but that happens at my own house. I can't complain about it, again it's fair expectations...there's always one knucklehead at these places that leaves their dog's crap on the ground. I should have had a flashlight. While walking Pretzel I found the place to have hidden secrets that I would've never expected at hotel. Keep in mind I've stayed at all kinds of these "free breakfast" types of hotels because my kids play travel baseball. I found there was outside accommodations for kids of all ages, a "Sports Court" basketball volleyball court, very safe and inviting swimming area and a nice sitting area for parents to either watch the kids swim, play basketball, or have nice area to sit after a long day vacationing. The room was normal, what you would expect a room to be for this level of hotel. It had a nice place to rest your head keep your bags and property safe. As all Marriott properties are so consistent on investing in proper beds, I don't even think about it anymore I expect it. However, I can't give them a full five star on this report. Jax slept on the sleeper sofa. I do not feel I can grade too hard on sleeper sofas, because as I have seen either a pass or fail when it comes to sleeper sofas there's nothing in between. The sleeper sofa was comfortable, but not what I would expect from a Marriott property. So set your expectations when using sleeper sofa. The room was extremely clean (typical of Marriott) had a great kitchenette, better than expected, and the room had great flow to accommodate three grown people and a large dog. The following is what really surprised me was the "free breakfast". Typically, no matter the chain they are consistent in their quality of taste, value, and variety. ... don't expect much other than to get a full stomach of something, its not an IHOP. The buffet did not have what I would call an extensive selection, but it had a very high-quality selection. The eggs were real, yes real and tasty, not a box of powdered eggs most of these places use. They also would make fresh scrambled eggs for you hot off the grill if you asked for it. They made their hard-boiled eggs fresh every morning. The staff behind the counter were incredible, there were two ladies and fellow prepping in the back. A Mom came in that had a slumber party of arojnd 10 young girls. One of the ladies behind the counter saw the mom by herself. She stepped around the counter and walked up and said "what can we get you girls". The look on the mom's face was hilarious, you could tell she she was exhausted from this "travel" slumber party she had volunteered herself for. For the next 15 minutes the Marriott employee helped organize the girls and get them breakfast. I was so impressed by the breakfast buffet, they have fresh spinach, fresh cheese they graded themselves in the kitchen because I asked, and fresh vegetables, salsa and other toppings to make different scrambled egg mixes. Nice!! They had normal pork sausage, and turkey sausage in patties. I had both because I wanted to compare them, each tasted extremely good. Their maker had four small subsections for waffles that you could make one single 2" waffle or four single 2" inch waffles. This accommodates a 17-year-old boy you can eat 4 of them, or small child that can eat 1, cutting down on waist of food to throw away. What I considered the most accommodating critical success factor, they allowed a 3 PM check out no questions asked. We had to leave Pretzel during the day when we visited the campus. The campus tour was over at 2 PM, and they totally accommodate us without any type of argument a question. We kept our part of the bargain and was out of the room by 3 PM. The support person at the front desk was very accommodating and sweet and check out, ending what I consider a nice experience.
