  • I came to this location in late January '17 to get new brake pads. They had a special for $99, so it seemed to be a good deal. All booths were empty and I didn't have to wait long. They told me they would do an inspection first to determine if everything else was okay. After about 30 minutes Robert came back inside and said they found something he wanted to talk to me about. Usually the work of installing new brake pads includes resurfacing the rotors at Just Brakes. However, my rotors were too thin to be resurfaced and I would need new ones. I asked him how much that would be. He came up with a price of about $550 for both - new brake pads and rotors. That seemed to be awfully high to me, so I declined and only went with the pads. Since my car requires ceramic pads instead of regular ones, the deal of $99 was out the window and I ended up with $189 total. Robert said that I needed to replace the rotors within the next month and half the latest, otherwise I would probably end up with no brakes at all. On the final invoice he quoted me for new rotors at $230. After asking again if this was plus tax, labor and fees, he said no, it would be the price out the door. Ok, so... if getting done everything on that day would have been $550 but now I have part one with $189 and part 2 with $230 - how exactly does that add up? I decided to shop around for the rotors at other places. I found a different garage that gave me a lower price for the rotors and had very good reviews online. So I went there last week. I told them what I was told - the rotors are too thin to be resurfaced and I needed new ones. They, too, did an inspection, measured the thickness of the rotors and after about 20 minutes I was called into the working area to take a look at my car. They informed me that based on the Chevy regulations for my car (which they go by), rotors need to be replaced at a thickness of 0.866. However, my rotors on that day were still 0.8 over the discard thickness and there is no reason whatsoever to replace them. They would be okay to do that if I wanted, but it is not required and it would basically be a waste of money. I went with resurfacing and asked to please notate their findings on the final invoice. Once completed I went back over to Just Brakes and presented the invoice to Robert. He said that Just Brakes has different requirements when it comes to the minimum thickness of rotors and they want the customer to be on the safe side when they resurface. Also, he couldn't explain where the other garage came up with the measurements. I do know for a fact that the requirements for resurfacing are that the thickness needs to be at least 0.2 - 0.3 over the discard thickness. So even if Just Brakes has different requirements - the thickness was WAY over the limit. To cut it short - Just Brakes was trying to rip me off good, not only on the day of the first repair. They also would have done the same if I would have come back for new rotors. When I pointed out to Robert that I already ended up with more than necessary costs at this point since I had the rotors resurfaced at a different place ($184) which should have been INCLUDED at the brake pads replacement at Just Brakes, I asked him how we should go about it. He was a little bit at a loss of words and still tried to explain the different requirements Just Brakes goes by - which in this case was not relevant, no matter how you look at it. He then offered that his manager would give me call to discuss the issue. I waited a couple of days already - still no call. They know they got caught in a lie but still don't try to work their way out and make up for it. Conclusion: This Just Brakes location is a very bad example for honest, quality work. If you don't want to be lied to and ripped off, go somewhere else!
